Swollen Lymph Nodes: When a Doctor Is Needed

The lymphatic system is one of the important systems that protect the human body. The lymph nodes have the ability to recognize foreign substances and organisms.

Locations: There are up to 600 lymph nodes in the human body. The best known are: in front of and behind the ear, the front and back of the neck, under the jaw, above the collarbone, the armpit, around the elbow and knee, the groin.

Causes of swollen lymph nodes: infectious and inflammatory reactions (most common); non-infectious processes; oncological diseases (relatively rare).

If the lymph nodes enlarge, be sure to consult an infectious disease physician.
