Pets and Children's Health

Pets are not just playmates for children; they play a serious role in forming a sense of responsibility, empathy and social skills. But for this positive effect to remain safe, proper hygiene and supervision are essential.

Diseases with a risk of transmission: worm infections, skin fungal diseases (ringworm), allergic reactions, some bacterial diseases, toxoplasmosis (from cats), cat-scratch disease. The risk increases especially after contact with stray animals.

Safety rules: the child must wash their hands with soap after every contact; pets must undergo regular veterinary examination and be protected against parasites; vaccinations must be done on time; the child's contact with the animal must be under parental supervision; the animal's bowls, bed and toys must be kept clean.

Risks mainly arise from lack of supervision. With proper hygiene and a responsible approach, children can interact safely with animals.
